Washington Unemployment Rate For June Was 4.6 Percent
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – Washington state’s June unemployment rate remained unchanged from the previous month’s revised rate of 4.6 percent.
According to numbers released Wednesday by the Employment Security Department, May’s rate had been revised down from the originally reported 4.7 percent. The state also added 6,000 jobs in June, with the largest job gains seen in education and health services, information and manufacturing.
Job losses were seen in construction, wholesale trade, leisure and hospitality and financial activities.
The state has added an estimated 82,700 jobs since June 2018.
Job gains and losses are estimates based on a survey by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate counts the percentage of people who are unemployed and actively looking for work, and doesn’t include those who have stopped looking for work.
The national unemployment rate for June was 3.7 percent, and the rate in the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett region was 3.3 percent.
