Sampling has always been a part of the hip-hop culture and is an art form WE truly appreciate.

Meek Mill is no stranger to being in the spotlight. From his early youtube rap battle days, he’s been a familiar name in the game for some while. In the last 5 years, his name has become synonymous with one of the bright young leaders of the game. He infamously went to prison for a year over popping a wheelie on his motorcycle and now is the face of prison reform in the country.

Since his release from prison this last February, he has been working on this album and this is the standout track “What Free” where he enlists the help of his friends Rick Ross and JAY-Z. The track speaks about their personal struggle within the rap game, judicial system, and business endeavors and what is actually free and what is being free.

If it sounds familiar, its because it samples the rap legend Biggie Smalls “What’s Beef”. This track discusses rap feuds. What’ss beef” is about putting hands on someone, not just trading insults.

Its always appreciated when current legends sample older legends and make great quality art. It gives us hope that the Art of Rap is not lost completely.
