Sampling has always been a part of the hip-hop culture and is an art form WE truly appreciate.

As mentioned in our previous WE find the Sample. There seems to be a resurgence of love for West Coast Hip-Hop. In French Montana’s new song “Slide” the bridge of the song you hear uses a famous and iconic west coast song from 1993.

The song is “Serial Killa” from Snoop Dogg’s debut album Doggystyle. The whole album was produced by Dr. Dre which gives it that distinct West Coast whistle that he was fond of using in the early 90’s.

It’s great to see West Coast songs being revisited by current rappers and producers. The 90’s West Coast wave was crucial to hip-hop gaining a popular movement and having homage being paid to it, is fun to see.
