Sampling has always been a part of the hip-hop culture and is an art form WE truly appreciate.

Saweetie is someone who has been at the forefront of the female rapper resurgence. Her provocative raps and use of 90’s and 00’s hip-hop samples have propelled her to stardom. Her second EP “ICY” is filled with heat tracks and recognizable samples. The biggest track off her EP is “My Type” which has a classic sample and has spawned its own dance challenge on social media.

The track Saweetie used as her sample is the 2004 hit “Freek-A-Leek” from Petey Pablo. An iconic track from the crunk era of hip-hop and lives on as one of the most popular club tracks of all-time.

It’s awesome to see, the current generation of hip-hop revisiting a not so distant era of hip-hop that sometimes is dismissed, but arguably a great era.
