“Twerk”

Sampling has always been a part of the hip-hop culture and is an art form WE truly appreciate.

The City Girls are bringing back the powerful female MC to Hip-hop and WE are all here for it. Their hottest track our right now is “Twerk” which has a very familiar and uptempo beat. It sounds familiar because it sampled two distinct songs

The first sample is from Choppa and his New Orleans Saints anthem “Choppa Style” The song has a distinct bounce rhythm that the city girls sampled as well as interpolated a line from one of his actual verses.

The second sample comes from the forgotten yet legendary group The Showboys and their iconic song “Drag Rap (Trigga Man)” If you’re a fan of hip-hop you definitely know this sound. It became the foundation of the New Orleans bounce that Choppa used.

Its always fun to see a legendary song evolve with each generation as they explore their identity and their sound. It also always great to see young artists surround themselves with producers who know iconic songs to help propel their careers and bring back old songs into the limelight.
