Saweetie Hits A Career Milestone With “My Type”
Saweetie has officially made her Billboard Hot 100 debut with the summer anthem, “My Type.”
The track, which is lifted from the rapper’s sophomore EP, Icy,” has bowed at number 81 on the tally, Billboard reports. That feat continues a trend — Saweetie is the seventh female rap act to reach the Hot 100 in 2019, the highest total of any year this past decade.
The 26-year-old rapper joins fellow artists Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, City Girls and Iggy Azalea, all of whom can boast about charting this year on the Hot 100. Of those artists, the Bay Area rapper is the third to score her first entry in 2019, following Megan, with “Big Ole Freak,” and Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts.”
Saweetie wrote on Instagram:
Per Billboard, female rap acts this year have outperformed their comparative 2018, 2017 and 2016 Hot 100 outputs. Five female hip-hop acts reached the Hot 100 in 2018: Bhad Bhabie, Cardi B, City Girls, Dej Loaf and Nicki Minaj. Six charted in 2017 — Bhad Bhabie, Cardi B, Dej Loaf, Missy Elliott, Minaj and Young M.A. — and six also charted in 2016: Dej Loaf, Elliott, Kamaiyah, Minaj, Remy Ma and Young M.A.
