The late Nipsey Hussle is remembered on Monday night’s season premiere of All American with a special mural on the side of a grocery store in Los Angeles.
The clip, from the episode titled Hussle & Motivate and shared by Billboard, shows series character Spencer James, portrayed by Daniel Ezra, admiring the mural and saying, “33 years young. It makes no damn sense.” Hussle’s song, “Blue Laces 2,” plays in the background.
The mural includes one of Hussle’s inspirational quotes: “I don’t give any person that much power over my path… Not one person can make or break what I’m doing, except me or God.”
Hussle was fatally shot outside of his Marathon Clothing store in South LA on March 31. He was 33 years old.
Ezra has said in the past that he drew inspiration from Hussle for his character, and the rapper’s music has often been featured in the show. Ezra posted a photo of Hussle on Instagram with the caption, “October 7. We pay homage.” He also commented, “Season Premiere’s For Nip. Don’t Miss It.”
All American executive producers Robbie Rogers and showrunner Nkechi Okoro previously told Deadline that they hoped to feature Hussle in the show’s first season, but weren’t able to coordinate schedules.
All American airs at 8:00 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on the CW network.
