Nike Sued For Failing To Stop Misgendering
A former Nike contractor is suing the company for $1.1 million, alleging pronoun abuse.
Jazz Lyles says response and action by shoemaker and Mainz Brady Group, a staffing firm, failed to correct complaints that they (Lyles) were “misgendered” by coworkers.
A transmasculine, with a preference for the pronouns they/them/their, Lyles says in a court filing that “When someone refuses to acknowledge a person’s gender identity or insists on referring to them by a gender to which they do not identify, this causes real and significant harm.”
The complaint also alleges they (Lyles) were ‘burdened’ by having to assume responsibility for ‘educating’ colleagues. Some who called Lyles “stupid” and “unstable.”
Do they (Lyles) have a case? Are they (Lyles) taking their complaint to extreme? Might their (Lyles’) coworkers have a complaint against them (Lyles) for work place harassment due to their (Lyles’) efforts to ‘educate?’
