Nicki Minaj Got Candid About Her Boyfriend

Nicki Minaj is getting candid about her blossoming relationship with boyfriend Kenneth Petty.

Sunday, the Head Barb orchestrated a live Q&A via Twitter to chat with her legion of supporters about her charged-up new single “Megatron.” But it wasn’t long before the topic of conversation turned to her new romance.

Surprisingly, Nicki was more than willing to address her fan’s curiosity about Petty, who also stars in the accompanying visual for “Megatron.”

The Queen lyricist also revealed that the 41-year-old is her “soulmate,” and doesn’t refer to her by her famous moniker, but rather by her birth name, Onika.

She tweeted in response to a fan:

He won’t even say the word “Nicki”. He has called me onika since I was 15 so it’s hard to change that. I wouldn’t date anyone cuz I’m about to be married to my soulmate. But that was the problem, others r infatuated w/Nicki Minaj he DGAF about this industry & is very protective https://t.co/zYshu5P8y7

She added: “His guard goes up when y’all [are] around me acting excited [sic] cuz he thinks y’all can hurt me. But when he hears the stories from some of my fans about how they think I’ve helped them to stay in school & deal w/their identities, etc., he seems rlly moved by it.”

Last week on Queen Radio, Nicki confirmed that she and Petty have received their marriage license, but she’s been relatively mum on the future wedding plans.

Also during the Twitter Q&A, Nicki shared the inspiration for the song and the meaning of its title. She also explained how Petty’s cameo in her video came about: He had fallen asleep in her trailer and she woke him up and forced him in front of the camera.

First came the beat & hook.

Then I freestyled the first verse. It just so happens the first line out of my mouth was; they call me Megatron.

I originally named the song Braaatttt

I changed it to #Megatron after the video was shot cuz it had a better ring to it 🥰
