CANYONVILLE, Ore. – The Milepost-97 fire near Canyonville  has grown to almost 6000 acres, “That fire has continued to grow, mainly to the south, southwest of where it started.”

Kyle Reed with the Douglas Forest Protective Association says they have firefighters on the ground and in the air trying to keep it moving away from disaster, “The fire is still burning away from the nearby town’s of Canyonville and Riddle. The three evacuation notices are still in place…the houses have not been impacted by the fire at this time.”

And Reed says more help is on the way, “We’ve ordered an incident management team from the Oregon Department of Forestry to help manage this fire.”

It’s believed the fire was sparked by an illegal campfire.
