Khalid Notch’s Top Spots On Mid-Year Reports

Khalid and Lil Nas X have ascended to the top of Nielsen Music’s mid-year R&B/hip-hop charts, Billboard reports.

According to the outlet, Khalid’s latest effort, Free Spirit, moved 929,000 equivalent album units and secured the number-one slot on Nielsen Music’s mid-year top 10 R&B/hip-hop albums chart during the tracking period of January 4 through June 20, 2019.

Free Spirit also accounts for the highest-selling R&B/hip-hop album of 2019 thus far, with 148,000 copies sold. Serving as Khalid’s sophomore album, Free Spirit debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, as well as the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums tally.

As for X, his monster hit “Old Town Road” is the most-streamed and highest-earning R&B/hip-hop song of  2019. Thus far, it’s amassed 1.34 billion on-demand combined audio and video streams , making it the only song across all genres to earn more than one billion streams year-to-date. “Old Town Road” also stands as the highest-selling digital R&B/hip-hop song of the year, with 958,000 downloads.

In addition, the Billy Ray Cyrus-assisted single has spent 13 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, making it the longest-running hip-hop track on record to top that chart.

The remaining top 10 on Nielsen’s mid-year R&B/hip-hop albums is comprised of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s Hoodie SZN at number two, followed by Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys and Drake’s Scorpion.
