Kanye West Working On Housing For The Homeless
Kanye West is looking to a galaxy far, far away for inspiration to help homeless people.
In a Forbes magazine feature story, the musician and entrepreneur reveals he’s working on creating low-cost, prefabricated shelters, the design of which is inspired by the domed houses on Luke Skywalker’s home planet of Tatooine from Star Wars.
Feature author Zack O’Malley Greenburg writes that Kanye took him for a nighttime ride in his Lamborghini to a site in the woods where three prototypes were under construction — “oblong and dozens of feet tall,” Greenburg writes, all of them being built to Kanye’s exact specifications.
Geenburg says West told him the structures “could be used as living spaces for the homeless, perhaps sunk into the ground with light filtering in through the top.”
Kanye’s love of Star Wars is no surprise to anyone who’s been paying attention: He name-checked Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader, in his 2005 song “Gone.” And the year before that, Kanye created a series pilot for Comedy Central titled Alligator Boots, and insisted Kim Kardashian — who he didn’t know then — appear in the pilot, dressed in Carrie Fisher‘s famous “slave Leia” costume from Return of the Jedi. Some say the appearance marked the beginning of their relationship.
Now if Kanye can just get to work on a Millennium Falcon prototype.
