Rapper turned culture commentator, Joe Budden, has apologized for comments he made about NBA star Kawhi Leonard’s dead father.
“I need to apologize to anyone that was offended by any of my, or our, Kawhi commentary last week. Some of you said it was in poor taste. I recognize how it can be taken that way,” Budden stated. “We were talking in code, or I was talking in code, alluding to some things that are not important and I totally did not see that outlook, so I do want to apologize if anyone was offended.”

He continued, “I never thought that would be looked at as joking on death. I just don’t play that way. I don’t joke on the dead, any of that. No need to give a long, drawn-out explanation. I certainly was not joking on the dead and would never want that to be taken that way, so let’s issue an apology to anyone who was offended, as well as Kawhi, as well as [Leonard’s manager] Uncle Dennis [Robertson]. You’re in the [NBA Finals], you don’t need any of this mess right now. My voice shouldn’t be the one to do that.”
Earlier Joe said that Kawhi’s dad was in jail for a crime that he didn’t want to mention and that Kawhi’s uncle was “out handling the business.” Even though a co-host corrected Budden and let him know Kawhi’s dad had passed away, Joe didn’t budge from his story until now.
Kawhi got every reason to put hands on Joe Budden after what he said about his father on his podcast.

Yeah that was the last straw. I’m not rocking with any Joe Budden content for a while. To inaccurately depict Kawhi’s dad as a criminal for shits and giggles when one of the BIGGEST facts about Kawhi’s story is his father being murdered is sickening.
