JAY-Z’s Team Roc is about that action! The social justice arm of RocNation filed a lawsuit against the Kansas City Police Department on Monday (September 20).

Headed up by Team Roc attorney Alex Spiro, the lawsuit claims the KCPD is covering up police misconduct by withholding documents that detail complaints against KCPD’s investigative department as well as police officer training and supervision of officers.

Team Roc was provided some documentation courtesy of the Kansas Open Records Act, but says the documents “aren’t sufficient.”

“The government has attempted to block our access to those files, and so we’re suing to see what they don’t want us to see,” said Spiro.

The lawsuit references an officer who was charged with sex crimes against a minor, two officers that were charged with a felony and misdemeanor assault over the mistreatment of an inmate, officers indicted on charges of stealing from homes where they were serving search warrants, and a federal lawsuit where a Black female officer sued the department for alleged race and gender discrimination.
