Janelle Monáe Is Giving Her Acclaimed Short Film A Reboot
Janelle Monáe is giving her acclaimed “emotion picture” DIRTY COMPUTER a reboot.
The Grammy-nominated singer has unveiled a new director’s cut of the narrative film, which features 13 additional minutes of never-before-seen interview footage with Monáe and her creative team.
“Dirty computers don’t see their bugs and viruses as negatives,” Monáe says of the visual effort.
“They see them as features, as attributes. With much love I am pleased to unveil the Director’s Cut of DIRTY COMPUTER. I am excited for all of you to take a step into the minds of myself + all of the directors behind the film.”
Debuting last April, the film follows the story of a young woman named Jane 57821, portrayed by Monáe, who is living in a totalitarian near-future society where citizens are referred to as “computers.” The short also features cameos from actress Tessa Thompson.
The revisited version of DIRTY COMPUTER includes a handful of hit singles, including “Django Jane,” “I Like That,” “Make Me Feel,” and “PYNK,” the latter of which is nominated for Best Music Video at this year’s Grammys.
Monáe’s project is also up for Album of The Year at the February 10 ceremony.
The director’s cut of the film is now streaming on Amazon and Quello, and will be available via Google next month.
