J. Cole Declares He’s Done Doing Guest Features
J. Cole is throwing in the towel when it comes to guest features.
Hours after appearing on Gang Starr‘s first single in nearly 20 years, “Family and Loyalty,” the rapper shared the announcement via Twitter on Friday afternoon.
Cole tweeted to his nearly 14 million followers:
This a honor to be on this song. NEW Gang Starr 🤯🤯🤯🤯 💎💎💎💎
This is the last feature you’ll hear from me. Thank you to everybody I got to work with during this run. 🙏🏿@REALDJPREMIER This song a classic, thank you. RIP GURUhttps://t.co/MMBI5Z2Fcq

While it’s not clear if Cole is closing the chapter on his guest features for 2019 or for the rest of his career, the Dreamville head honcho has delivered a handful of impressive verses this past year.
In addition to appearing on nearly every track on the star-studded compilation album Revenge of the Dreamers III, Cole has also rattled off bars for the likes of Ty Dolla $ign, on “Purple Emoji,” and Young Thug, on “The London” with Travis Scott, among others.
Speaking with XXL back in March, Cole offered some insight into his collaborative works.
“Last year, I set an intention to say yes way more than I say no,” the North Carolina-bred lyricist told the publication. “Say yes to features. Step outside of my comfort zone. And it’s still going.”

He continued, “I’m trying to level up this year on the features. I don’t want to be done with rap years from now and look back like, ‘Damn, I didn’t even work with nobody.’ I want to know that I left no stone unturned.”
