Salem, Ore. – Four new housing bills will become law in Oregon this afternoon. One changes the state’s zoning laws, allowing for increased density in single family neighborhoods. Like duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes in areas that were traditional just single family homes. One new law will fund the Oregon Housing and Community Services Department, bringing investments in housing solutions. Another requires the state to analyze housing needs and strategies. The last will provide housing resources for abuse victims and low-income families Governor Kate Brown is signing the new laws today in Salem.

She will be joined by housing advocates from across the state to celebrate the progress made on addressing Oregon’s housing crisis this legislative session.

The Governor will sign SB 5512, the budget for Oregon Housing and Community Services Department, representing historic and transformative investments in housing solutions; HB 2001, which allows for increased density in single family neighborhoods; HB 2003, requiring state agencies to conduct regional housing needs analyses and local housing production strategies; and HB 2006, resources for domestic and sexual violence survivors and low-income families seeking housing.

“This session, we committed to significant investments that will help every Oregon family have a warm, safe, and dry place to call home,” said Governor Brown. “No one single solution will address our housing crisis, and this legislation tackles the whole spectrum of issues, from homelessness, to stable rental housing, to increasing home ownership.”
