Fire Season Is Here In NW Oregon

Forest Grove, Or. – Fire season has officially begun in NW Oregon. Malcolm Hiatt at the Oregon Forestry Department’s Forest Grove office says even with all the rain we saw last week, conditions are still drier than usual. He says fire danger is low, but could be raised to moderate by next week. He says that’s because temperatures should be in the 80’s over the next few days.

Hiatt says the NW district has seen 22 fires so far this year. All of them have been caused by humans. The latest was a debris fire that got out of control and burned a quarter acre in Columbia County last night.

He says if you plan to have a campfire in the woods, make sure the area around and above it is cleared, attend it at all times and make sure its out before you leave.
