About four years ago, Chance the Rapper had a secret concert in Chicago and is now bringing that concert to the big screen.

During the pandemic, he learned about the art of filmmaking and was inspired to finally create this film.

Chance said, “I had a lot of editing notes and ideas, but I didn’t know how to edit. But during the pandemic, I started doing virtual concerts and actually directing them myself. I picked up all these skills that filmmakers have — one of them was figuring how to edit and work with editors. I needed that.”

“Magnificent Coloring World” will premiere at AMC theaters on August 13.

Chance wanted to give a theater-like feel to this film and decided to partner with AMC rather than go with another streaming service.

This process has inspired Chance to do more filmmaking.
