Vancouver, Washington – Fire fighters in Vancouver had some challenges trying to put out a house fire last night. It broke out at the Fair Oaks Estates on Northeast 121st avenue around 9:30pm. Heavy smoke was coming from the home when crews got there. But the water supply had some issues. So crews had to cut through a fence to get to water at some neighboring condos. Once they got to a hydrant, the fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes. No one was home at the time. No one was hurt.

Vancouver Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at Fair Oaks Estates at 5404 NE 121st Avenue at 9:35pm. Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the house and used a hose line to extinguish fire from the exterior before entering the residence to continue extinguishment in the interior. The private water supply system at Fair Oaks Estates posed a challenge for establishing a stable water supply so crews used a saw to cut through a fence separating Fair Oaks Estates from One Lake Place Condominiums to access a hydrant within the condo complex.  The fire was reported knocked down within 20 minutes. The fire had initially been reported by a passerby and no one was inside the structure when Vancouver Fire crews arrived. One person and one dog were displaced by the fire and Red Cross was called to assist the resident. A total of 25 members of the Vancouver Fire Department responded  to the scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s office.
