Meek Mill is taking over his hometown: Philadelphia has officially declared Meek Mill Weekend in the City of Brotherly Love. The “holiday weekend” will officially run from today through Saturday.

The “Championships” rapper was honored at City Hall today for his contributions to hip hop and for bringing national attention to criminal justice reform. He received a proclamation from City Council president Darrell L. Clarke, and a state proclamation from State Senator Sharif Street, according to Complex.com.

Meek posted a photo of the ceremony on Instagram and commented, “Philly gave me a meek weekend!!!!! Thank you to my city!”

The 31-year-old rapper will celebrate as he brings his Motivation tour to The Met in Philly on Friday and Saturday.

It was nearly one year ago that the rapper was released on bail in April 2018, after serving time for a parole violation stemming from an arrest in 2007 on gun and drug charges.

For the past decade, Meek has dedicated himself to changing the criminal justice system. In January, he launched the Reform Alliance organization with JAY-Z and Philadelphia 76ers owners Michael Rubin.
