Carmelo Anthony: I Want To Retire As A Portland Trail Blazer

Fans at first may have been skeptical about the future Hall of Famer’s fit in Portland, but he has more than lived up to the billing, averaging 16.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting 43.5% from the floor since signing in November.

As for what is next for Anthony after this season, questions remain. But the Blazers star went on the record after Tuesday’s practice, telling Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune that Rip City is where he wants to stay to finish his basketball career.

“I would love to stay,” he said. “I feel like this is the place for me to end my career. It could have happened earlier, but it didn’t. Now, where I’m at in my life and my career — this is where I want to retire.”

Anthony signed a one-year non-guaranteed contract back on Nov. 19th, and that contract became fully guaranteed on Dec. 6th. The contract counts for just $1.36 Million against the salary cap.
