It may be too little too late, but BET is now apologizing for a shady tweet that was sent out on Sunday during the Grammy Awards where it had poked fun at Nicki Minaj.

In the now-deleted tweet, captured online, the network had added a snarky caption to a post about Cardi’s Grammy win, which read:

In a statement issued on Monday evening, BET took responsibility for its actions and expressed that it would be “conducting an internal audit.”

An apology to @NickiMinaj, her fans and all our readers

A post shared by BET Networks (@bet) on

“BET loves Nicki Minaj. We have supported her from the very beginning of her career and will continue to do so moving forward,” the message began.

“Unfortunately, the respect we have for Nicki was violated by this post that should never have been written,” the statement continued. “The post does not reflect how we feel about Nicki. And further does not reflect our company values. We deeply apologize for the hurt, disappointment and confusion that this post has caused.”

BET went on to say they would “address the situation” by “conducting an internal audit” that ensured those type of posts wouldn’t be “published again.”

“We have apologized to Nicki and her team,” the message added. “The post has been removed and we have taken additional appropriate action. We understand Nicki’s position and look forward to continuing our dialogue with her.”

BET’s formal apology, however, came hours after Nicki Minaj officially announced she and Young Money “will not longer be apart of the BET Experience or award show.”

There is no word on if Nicki Minaj will reconsider her performance at the BET Experience. She was set to headline the concert series, which takes place June 20-22, prior to the BET Awards on June 23.
