Eric Holder, the man charged with the shooting death of rapper and community activist Nipsey Hussle last Sunday, pleaded not guilty during his first court appearance in Los Angeles Thursday.

Bail for Holder, 29, was set at $5 million.  At last word, he remained in custody.

Holder was officially charged Thursday by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. His attorney is Christopher Darden — if that name sounds familiar, it’s because Darden was part of the team that prosecuted O.J. Simpson during his notorious 1995 murder trial.

Grammy-nominated rapper Hussle, 33, born Ermias Joseph Asghedom, was shot multiple times and killed March 31.  Holder was taken into custody Tuesday.  If convicted, he faces possible life in prison.  He’s due back in court May 10.
