Spike Lee has finally been nominated for Best Director at this year’s Academy Awards for his film BlacKkKlansman.

With a film career that spans over three decades, Lee has yet to win an Oscar. Lee did receive an Honorary Academy Award in 2016.

Lee is the sixth black man to be nominated for Best Director since 1929. No black filmmakers have ever won Best Director.

BlacKkKlansman also received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Editing. Adam Driver also received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

The nominations for the 2019 Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday morning.

The Favourite and Roma tied for the most nominations with 10 each. Both movies are up for Best Picture.

A Star Is Born was honored with 8 nominations. As well as Best Picture, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga received Best Actor and Best Actress nods.

The rest of the films up for Best Picture are Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book and Vice. The Academy Awards will take place on February 24th.

The awards ceremony is officially charging ahead without a host for the first time in nearly three decades after comedian Kevin Hart stepped down in the wake of controversy over past homophobic tweets.

The 91st Annual Academy Awards will be handed out live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, Feb. 24.
