Timberline Lodge, Ore. – On your mark. Get set. GO! The World’s Largest relay race just started at Timberline lodge on Mt. Hood at 5am, and will go all the way to Seaside. If you’re not involved in the Hood to Coast race, you still need to be on the lookout for runners.  The teams will be coming through Portland,joining the Portland-to-Coast Walkers. Then they’ll hit Highway 30 to St. Helens, cut over to the Coast Range, and end in Seaside. KXL’s Rosemary Reynolds is making her way over to the Portland walking teams that are heading out right now near the Hawthorne bridge and will have more on the big race throughout the morning. The first leg of the annual Hood to Coast relay race has just started. Daryl Adams is on the “United and Stride” Blind runners team. Adams ran in high school and college, but then his eyesight got to a point where he couldn’t do it alone anymore. Now he’s back at it thanks to a running guide by his side. United and Stride has a website that pairs up blind runners with guides to help them safely navigate courses all over the country.

As relay teams hit the road for Hood to Coast organizers right some past wrongs. KXL’s Lucinda Kay explains.
